Skate & Read
Sponsored By Nevins Memorial Library
Winter Clinic Overview
Get ready for an exciting new initiative that brings together the thrill of the ice and the magic of reading! The Skate & Read Showcase Clinic is proudly organized by the Methuen Fun Hockey League (MFHL) and generously sponsored by the Nevins Memorial Library.
This unique program is all about combining the incredible benefits of reading with the joy of playing a sport, specifically hockey. In today's digital world, we know how challenging it can be to get kids away from screens. That's why we believe this program will have a tremendous impact on encouraging mental and physical activity for children.
Think about it:
- Reading isn't just about words on a page; it fosters imagination, dramatically improves vocabulary, enhances critical thinking, and vastly expands knowledge.
- And playing a sport like hockey? It's fantastic for developing teamwork, improving physical fitness, building discipline, and providing a healthy outlet for all that youthful energy!
By blending these two powerful forces, the Skate & Read program aims to captivate children with engaging activities that stimulate both their minds and their bodies, offering a refreshing alternative to endless screen time.
Join us for an experience that's sure to be a game-changer!

Skate & Read Season Overview
The Methuen Fun Hockey League (MFHL) is thrilled to introduce Skate & Read, a unique program designed to foster a love for reading while developing essential hockey skills. We believe in getting kids off electronic screens and into the exciting world of paperback books and plenty of ice time!
This program introduces new players to ice hockey and helps experienced players sharpen their skills, all while making reading and learning a fun and integral part of their development.
The Skate & Read season combines the thrill of hockey with the joy of reading. Players are expected to read at least four age-appropriate books from our specially curated "Skate & Read" list throughout the season.
These books are readily available at the Nevins Memorial Library and can also be accessed at the rink during certain sessions, making it convenient for everyone.
